Karaoke in the heart of Amsterdam

Casablanca is a karaoke bar in the centre of Amsterdam, on the Zeedijk. No separate booths, no fuss: you walk in, pick a song and sing for the whole bar. You, the table next to you, and that group you've never met — one bar singing along. We've been here since 1946: it started as a jazz club, and karaoke has run here since the nineties.

How it works

No need to book — and you can't. Just walk in. Scan the QR code, look up your song on your own phone and add it to the queue. The screen shows who's up and how many songs are ahead of you. How long that takes depends on how busy it is. Between songs the rest of the bar sings along, so you're never up there on your own. You don't need to be able to sing. Most people picking up the microphone here for the first time can't either.

No booths, one bar

In Amsterdam, karaoke is nearly always a private room: you rent a booth, close the door and sing for your own group. Not here. Casablanca is an ordinary bar with the karaoke right in the middle of the room. You sing for everyone there, and everyone sings back.

It takes a minute to get used to, and then it's exactly why people stay. You come in with two of you and an hour later you're singing the same chorus with a table of strangers. That doesn't happen in a booth.

When we're open

Wednesday and Thursday from 20:00 to 03:00, Friday and Saturday from 20:00 to 04:00. Closed Sunday through Tuesday. Entry is free.

Until around ten it's quiet and your turn comes quickly. After that it fills up, especially on Friday and Saturday. If you want to be sure you'll sing, come a bit earlier.

Alone, as a pair or with a group

Coming on your own is fine and happens more often than you'd think. You don't need to know anyone to join in.

With a group of up to about fifteen you simply walk in; no booking needed and none possible. From 25 people you can hire the whole bar for a private party — then the place is yours, and it can be on a weekday or during the day.

Zeedijk 26E, walking distance from Amsterdam Centraal and Nieuwmarkt. About ten minutes on foot from the station. Right in the centre, among the bars of the Zeedijk.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book?: No, and you can't. Walk in whenever you like and add your song to the queue yourself. We only make arrangements for private parties from 25 people.
What does it cost?: Coming in and singing is free. You only pay for what you drink.
Do I need to be able to sing?: No. That's the whole point. The bar sings along, so hardly anyone notices whether you hit the notes.
When is the best time to come?: Before ten it's quieter and your turn comes sooner. After ten it's busier and the wait is longer, especially on Friday and Saturday.
Which songs do you have?: A catalogue of tens of thousands of songs, Dutch and English, from Hazes to the Backstreet Boys. What gets picked most here is in the chart above.
Can I celebrate a birthday here?: Certainly. With a small group you just walk in. Want the bar to yourself, then that's possible from 25 people as a private party.
